Mega Millions - flood: 09/25/2009

This is the simpliest example of 'hunting' for beneficial groups situation in Mega Millions lottery. Let's take a look at the 'current' flood opportunity (the latest draw result is from: 09/22/2009) with Groups Behaviour:

The 'Golden' set seems to be behind and we assume that it's going to catch up.

Here is (Groups Chart) showing the current situation of this group. Notice four drawings without even a single number. Then this set started to catch up: one flood (black rectangle) showed up.. but the balance is not restored yet. Probably another flood is coming up soon.

The golden group (currently calculated with Golden Set function) contains the following ten numbers:7, 18, 26, 27, 35, 36, 42, 43, 49, 52. We need only 5 numbers to cross out so it would be helpful if we could narrow this list down to minimize the necessary number of tickets. The function from which we always start is the: Numbers in Floods:

This function demonstrates that during floods, numbers:27, 35, 36 and 43 have been appearing most frequently. These should be definitly included in our choice.

To decide what to do with the rest of numbers the Numbers chart will assist us.

     What can we see?

  • number 27 is currently 'hot' (it's already included). It should be considered a 'Dead cert'.
  • number 26 is regular - it came up in the 'last' draw, so it probably won’t show up in the next one- we'd better not select it.
  • number 35 just stopped being 'hot'. But recently it had some 'good time' (7 hits/12 draws) - it may come up again.

We've managed to select most likely group (that had 10 numbers), excluded number 26 and identified 27 as our 'must be drawn'. At the end we had only 9 numbers! The number of tickets is significantly reduced..
..and in the next draw (09/25/2009) we have the 'flood'!. The numbers are: 7, 27, 42, 49, 52.

It obviously doesn’t mean that we’ve definitely won the jackpot (it depends on the number of tickets; we could have won 4/5 or 3/5).. but in only few steps, taking advantage of beneficial unbalanced groups situation we have identified the possible winning numbers.
